On a trip to Northwest Arkansas, I had the opportunity to visit James Turrell’s “The Way of Color”. Tucked into the grassy hillside along the Crystal Bridges Trail is a small stone building with a round opening in the ceiling which provides a naked-eye-view to the sky above. At dusk and dawn a sequence of computer programmed LED lights created by artist Turrell is displayed on the surrounding ceiling of the chamber. Visitors sit comfortably along the outside edge of the chamber to view the sky above. As the display colors change on the ceiling surrounding the opening (oculus), our perception of the color of the sky changes. The artist creates an opportunity for individuals to experience the relationship between light, time and nature. An amazing event that everyone will enjoy.
